Dents usually do not impede the proper function of the roof vent caps, but they are an indication of whether or not hail or a falling tree has struck your roof. They can also give you a better idea of the extent of damage that may have occurred.

2. Downspouts — You should check to see if there is a significant amount of shingle granules in your downspouts. Although granule loss does not necessarily mean that there is damage to a roof, significant loss is usually a sign that the roof has been severely weathered or damaged.
